On December 31, Queen Margrethe II announced her abdication in her New Year’s speech. According to her decision, her son, Prince Frederik, assumed the leadership of the Danish royal family. During the Council of State meeting on January 14, 2024, Queen Margrethe II officially signed the declaration of her abdication, and Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen proclaimed Prince Frederik as King Frederik X from the balcony of Christianborg Palace.
